Terms for using Backmate

These terms describe the rules for owner accounts, QR recovery pages, finder messages, abuse reports, and Backmate shop purchases.

Effective date

Operator
CasettaLab

1. About Backmate

Backmate is operated by CasettaLab. The service helps owners attach QR recovery tags to items and lets finders open a recovery page to send a private message to the owner.

Backmate is not an emergency service, law-enforcement service, insurer, courier, escrow service, or guarantee that an item will be recovered.

2. Owner accounts and responsibilities

Owners are responsible for keeping account credentials secure, keeping recovery details accurate, and using Backmate only for items they own or are authorized to manage.

Owners control the public item name, item type, public message, reward indication, and recovery status shown on a tag page. Owners must not publish misleading, unsafe, unlawful, or invasive content.

3. Finder messages and recovery interactions

Finders may use public recovery pages to send a message about an item. Finders should share only information needed to arrange a safe return and should not send sensitive personal, payment, or identity information unless they choose to do so.

Owners and finders are responsible for arranging any return safely and lawfully. Backmate only provides the recovery page and messaging path.

4. Prohibited conduct

Backmate must not be used to harass, threaten, impersonate, defraud, track people without consent, solicit unsafe meetings, publish unlawful content, interfere with the service, or attach tags to items without permission.

CasettaLab may review reports, disable tags, suspend accounts, preserve records, or refuse service when abuse, fraud, safety risk, or unlawful activity is suspected.

5. Abuse reporting

Public recovery pages include a path to report suspicious tags or unsafe requests. Reports may be reviewed by CasettaLab to protect users and the service.

Submitting a report does not guarantee a particular outcome, but CasettaLab may use report information to investigate, disable content, or contact affected users.

6. Shop orders, shipping, and payments

Backmate may sell QR recovery products such as wallet cards, key tags, and pet tags. Product availability, prices, taxes, shipping rates, and delivery areas may change.

Payments are processed through Stripe. An order is accepted only when checkout and payment are completed successfully. Shipping and fulfillment information may be used to complete manual fulfillment and customer support.

7. QR recovery limitations

A QR recovery tag depends on the tag remaining readable, the public code matching an active Backmate record, internet access, and a finder choosing to engage. Tags can be lost, damaged, removed, disabled, or scanned by unintended people.

Owners should not rely on Backmate as the only protection for valuable, regulated, dangerous, medical, or identity-related items.

8. Service changes and termination

CasettaLab may change, pause, limit, or discontinue parts of Backmate, including features, shop products, integrations, or account access.

CasettaLab may suspend or terminate access if an account, tag, order, message, or report appears to violate these terms, create risk, or interfere with the service.

9. Disclaimers and liability

Backmate is provided as available. CasettaLab does not promise that every scan, message, notification, order, or recovery attempt will be successful, uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free.

To the extent allowed by law, CasettaLab is not responsible for indirect losses, lost items, failed returns, unsafe meetings, third-party conduct, carrier delays, payment-provider issues, or decisions made by owners or finders outside the Backmate service.

10. Updates and contact

CasettaLab may update these terms as Backmate changes. Questions about these terms can be sent to backmate.app@outlook.com.

These terms are intended to describe the current Backmate product and should be reviewed as the service changes.
